Don’t let the naplan scores deceive you...they drill those kids until education loses all fun

Several weeks ago, my son was advised by someone in leadership at the school to remove a review he had written because he had mentioned a leader by name. I think that was excellent advice, and so I have helped him to edit his review so he can safely share his perspective and opinion. Here is his edited review:

I went to this school for 10 years. For nine of those years I felt safe and happy. The tenth year I spent at Emmaus was the first year under a new leadership. Throughout that year I noticed many changes that drastically changed the school from a unique friendly community to a school which was no different from many others. The same year it felt like the Christian environment started to become toxic, where Christianity was practically being forced down your throat, as opposed to the gentle ways teachers would previously incorporate Christianity into everyday teaching. That year was very difficult for me as I was struggling with depression. Just about every teacher in high school knew I was depressed, and out of the ten or so teachers only one of them acted to help me. I am very sad to see what has happened to Emmaus under the new leadership. Where I used to feel safe, I now feel as though I may be judged and disciplined for having my own opinions on Christianity, and due to my experiences with Christianity at Emmaus I no longer believe in Christ the way I used to. If you are considering sending a child here for education I suggest you go to a different school that provides exactly the same things without the toxic Christianity.

Emmaus Christian School is a toxic environment....Staff who can’t get along, school leaders and teachers who bully small children, chaotic, messy and disorganised classrooms. The school is largely made up of teacher’s children and fundamentalist christians. If you don’t fit into either of those categories, run the opposite direction now. The level of education is poor, the facilities are poor and there is no warmth or happiness there.
