Our 1-year old loves Cooinda! The educators are friendly and conscientious, management is responsive and professional, and we really like the overall ethos of the centre. The facilities seem generally good. Very convenient location, too, right in the middle of the Charnwood shops (so there's a Woollies, a post office, a bakery, a cafe, hairdressers, etc all nearby). Recommended.

The rooms and outdoor play spaces are perfect, the educators are lovely,  caring and kind! They have gone out of their way to bond with my son and make him feel comfortable, happy and safe. It has been a pleasure watching him connect with the educators and go from a screaming wreck to a cheery, confident boy who thoroughly enjoys being there.

Some background -
I did a tour of Cooinda in 2015 for my first son and it just didn't feel right so we ended up going to Flynn instead, which was fantastic. When I was pregnant with my second son, 4 years later, I quickly put his name down at Flynn but he hadn't been offered a spot and I was getting desperate to go back to work. A school mum friend of mine mentioned she'd easily gotten a spot for her daughter at Cooinda and I was sceptical. I really needed to go back to work now and I couldn't wait forever for Flynn to get back to me so I decided to take another look at Cooinda....
I immediately fell in love with the place - the vibe was completely different. I was given a tour by the Director Molly and she told me about how she had completely reformed the place. I could really feel the difference. The place felt open, welcoming and friendly and all the educators said hello and introduced themselves with a smile. And the real kicker was when I discovered how many of the beautiful educators from Flynn had now moved to Cooinda! I signed up that day and have been exceptionally impressed ever since!

Cooinda Cottage truly lives up to the meaning 'Happy Place'! It is such a special place for children as it celebrates diversity and inclusivity all day, every day.

I love the friendly staff who make you feel so very welcome and a part of the Cooinda Cottage family. We also love how Aboriginal Culture is embedded and celebrated 365 days a year.

Cooinda is the best daycare in Canberra. We have tried a few and found them incomparable to Cooinda. The diversity of staff and a focus on indigenous culture is a breath of fresh air. The catering is exceptional and the curriculum supports their development as they work towards their kindergarten year.

My child has been at Cooinda for two years now. We have found the centre and its staff of outstanding educators, led by an exceptional team, to suit our families needs. Their friendly community feel stems from their uniquely refreshing, not for profit status. They have a strong focus on building genuine relationships with young children and their families. As a teacher myself,  I have been very impressed with Cooinda's understanding of early childhood principles and practices and the clever way they are able to embrace indigenous culture through authentic learning opportunities. I know that my child is happy and safe at Cooinda and I would highly recommend this educational centre.

Cooinda Cottage Early Childhood Centre
 
Cooinda Cottage is an 80 place centre offering full time, part time and casual care for children birth to five years of age with an infant learning space, two toddler learning spaces and two preschool learning spaces. These spaces are flexible in their use to accommodate different ages of children and availability of places. To assist vulnerable children and families, under the Children’s Services Program (CSP) funded by the Community Services Directorate (CSD), a number of places are specifically allocated to assist vulnerable children and families in accessing short-term early childhood education.

At Cooinda Cottage, we believe life learning begins from birth and each child will experience their own unique childhood, as part of a community on Ngunnawal land, acknowledging everyone has rights and the world can be a fairer place. Our menus are based on guidelines from Nutrition Australia. Each month we celebrate Bush Tucker experiences as part of our commitment to embed Indigenous perspectives into our curriculum and community.

Children attending Cooinda Cottage have professional educators and teachers who take responsibility for articulating professional values, knowledge and practice. We proudly provide inclusive high quality education and care through the implementation of the National Quality Framework, UN Rights of the Child and the Early Childhood Australia Code of Ethics.
 
Cooinda Cottage is open for 50 weeks per year, closing for approximately two weeks over the Christmas/New Year period, as well as closing on all ACT public holidays.
