100 New Public Preschools
The New South Wales government has announced that it will build 100 new public preschools around the state. Is your suburb on their list?
BY HEJIRA CONVERY, KINDICARE
The Victorian government is busy building 50 new early learning and childcare centres, as part of its $14 billion Best Start, Best Life reforms; and in New South Wales, there’s a Bob the Builder vibe as well!
The New South Wales government plans to provide universal preschool across the state by 2030; and to support this, the Minns government has announced that it will build 100 new public preschools on public primary school sites by 2027.
Given how fast 2024 is going, these preschools will be open before we know It, and they promise to make a real difference to the areas they’re built in, and the state’s overall preschool offering.
The 100 new preschools will double the number of public preschools in New South Wales, and the government has carefully chosen where each of the preschools will go.
Thirteen of the 100 will be built on new and redeveloped school sites.
While the remaining 87 public preschools will pop up in areas where there’s a real need for public preschool places, based on current data and predicted demand, to support more children to access a preschool program before they trot off to big school.
The upshot of this, is that there will be new public preschools built in the north, south, east and west of New South Wales; and although their completion by 2027 is reliant on building and regulatory approval, now’s the time to see if your area is in line for a new, government-built preschool.
Here’s the full list of places where the New South Wales government will build new public preschools, and those marked with an asterix will be on a new or redeveloped school site:

We hope lots of you will be positively impacted by these new builds, and if you have any questions about them, the government says you can contact the 100 preschools team by emailing 100preschools@det.nsw.edu.au or calling 1800 619 113.
It’s also good to know that the Start Strong program is already laying the foundations for a great early education.
The aim of this program is to ensure that all New South Wales children can access 600 hours of a high-quality preschool program in the years before school – whether they’re at long day care or community preschool – and there’s fee relief to help us families pay for it.
Remember, too, that if you’re looking for a great preschool in New South Wales (or anywhere around Australia), KindiCare is here to help.
We make it easy to find childcare that matches your wants and needs, and you can ask about a prospective preschool’s program, fees and available places by clicking the ‘Make Enquiry’ button in the preschool's KindiCare listing.
