Ada Nicodemou Interview
Ada’s new junior fiction series is super inspiring for young performers, and she has some sound advice for us parents too.
BY HEJIRA CONVERY, KINDICARE
Ada Nicodemou is one of Australia’s best loved celebs, and although she’s known for the 20+ years that she’s put into her Home & Away role, Ada has a lot of strings to her bow!
She can sing, dance, act and write amazing stories, and her brand-new Mia Megastar book is perfect for all those creative kids who are busy using hairbrushes as microphones, dancing like everyone’s watching, and aspiring to make it BIG in showbiz!
Mia Megastar is a funny, up tempo read that’s ideal for ages 8+ and because we’re always looking for ways to inspire our children (and peek into the lives of famous people!), we were excited to ask Ada a few questions.
Here’s our quick Q&A with Ada Nicodemou, and we hope your kiddo loves Mia Megastar as much as they love that hairbrush!
KindiCare: Mia Megastar is the first book in a whole new junior fiction series by the same name. What’s the book about, and why will young readers (and especially tween girls) love it?
ADA: Mia Megastar follows Mia, a young girl who’s passionate about performing.
Inspired by a play she attended, Mia decides to start a drama club with her friends; and the story is a celebration of Greek culture, friendships, and the pursuit of dreams.
It’s perfect for tween girls who are dreaming of the stage, and offers insights into making those dreams a reality, alongside a taste of Greek culture and some easy, yummy recipes.
KindiCare: How much of Ada Nicodemou, and your family, will we find in Mia Megastar?
ADA: Mia's character and her journey reflect my own childhood experiences. As an extrovert from a family of migrants, I too dreamed of performing without knowing how to start.
My son, Johnas, is thrilled that Mia's best friend, Ted, shares his love for soccer. And the character of Mia’s mum, known for her practical jokes, might just be the spitting image of my own mum!
My extended family and friends, along with many people of European backgrounds, will likely see reflections of their own stories in Mia’s life.
KindiCare: As someone who loved performing as a child, and is now a TV star and mum, what advice do you have for us parents who are raising dramatic children?
ADA: It's important to always support and encourage your children, letting them explore and try different things. Inspire them to be creative and assure them it’s okay to follow their dreams.
This encouragement can help them become confident in themselves and their pursuits.
KindiCare: You’re a super busy parent, actor and author. How do you fit everything in, and what tips do you have for other working mums who are trying to find a great work-life balance?
ADA: I'm fortunate to have a supportive mother and extended family. They help look after my son, allowing me to work and pursue what I love.
It truly does take a village to balance work and family life. For other working mums, I’d say find your village. Whether it’s through day care, school care or family support, it’s okay to seek help to manage everything.
KindiCare: This is very true, and we can’t wait to see where life, and the Mia Megastar series, takes you.

Mia Megastar is out now, and Mia Megastar 2: The Juggling Act is coming in July.
