Changes to the Child Care Subsidy will make childcare cheaper for most Australian families from 10 July 2023, and although this sounds great, what you really want to know, is how much cheaper childcare will be for you!

We get it.

And, in fact, we feel the same, so we’ve fine-tuned our clever KindiCare Subsidy Calculator to make it even cleverer!

You can now compare your Child Care Subsidy before and after 10 July 2023, to see how much better off you’ll be under the new system.

This technology is ground-breaking, but finding out your financial future is easy (when it comes to the Child Care Subsidy, anyway!)

Simply click through to the KindiCare Childcare Comparison Calculator in the KindiCare app or website, then enter these quick details:

  • Your family’s current household income
  • You and your partner’s activity hours
  • Your postcode or suburb
  • Your child’s age
  • The type of early learning service they attend
  • How many days, and hours per day, they go along for, and
  • The daily fee you’re being charged before subsidies are applied.

Add details for each child, if you have more than one in care, then click the ‘Calculate Subsidy’ button and, ta-da!

You will instantly be shown your family’s estimated out-of-pocket childcare costs per week, now and after 10 July 2023.

It’s exciting to see your estimated savings in dollars and cents (especially if the figure is big), and although families earning over $530,000 per annum won’t get any help with childcare fees, now or later, plenty of us will soon be better off!

It's estimated that nine out of 10 families will benefit from the Child Care Subsidy changes, and to give you a sense of what these changes may mean in real terms, here are a few examples.

  • A family earning $200,000 per year and working full-time will be $96.90 per week better off after 10 July 2023, if they have one four-year-old attending long day care, four days per week for nine hours per day, at a cost of $148 per day.

  • A family earning $88,000 per year and working 40 hours per fortnight will be $48.59 per week better off after 10 July 2023, if they have two children (aged two and four) in family day care, three days a week for six hours each day, at a cost of $110 per day.

  • A family earning $120,000 per year, working 70 hours per fortnight will be $32.18 per week better off after 10 July 2023, if they have an eight-year-old in outside school hours care, five days a week for three hours a day, at a cost of $45 per day.

  • A family earning $380,000 per year, working full-time will be a whopping $617.85 per week better off after 10 July 2023, if they have two children (aged one and three) in long day care, five days per week for 10 hours a day, at a cost of $155 per day. This is because their Child Care Subsidy rate will rise from 0% to 39.86% under the new system.

Of course, your own circumstances are unique, and the best way to work out if you’ll be better off, and by how much, is to plug in your details.

This KindiCare article also provides a great summary of all the Child Care Subsidy changes coming soon, and we hope you have a lot more money in your pocket from 10 July 2023!
