Stomp, roar and learn with these 8 dinosaur-themed toys for your baby or toddler.
BY HEJIRA CONVERY, KINDICARE
Dinosaurs are absolutely fascinating for under-fives, and if your little one isn’t quite old enough to tell their Diplodocus from their Deltadromeus, then they can still dig their claws into some dinosaur-themed play.
There are lots of fun and educational dino-themed toys out there, and if you have a baby or toddler, here are 8 playthings that will grab their interest in the Earlylearnicus Age!

1. Tara Treasures Dinosaur Finger Puppets Set
Finger puppets are great for imaginative play and creative storytelling, and your tiny tot will love the look and character of the felt dinosaurs in this set.
There's a Brachiosaurus, Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Stegosaurus and Pteranodon, which you'll bring to life with your growly voice and flexy fingers.
And it’s nice to know that these puppets are ethically made by women in Nepal.

2. Tiger Tribe Roly Poly Dino
This bioplastic sensory toy is designed for ages three months to two years, and your little learner will be delighted by its tinkly bell sound and grippy back frills.
Mostly, though, they’ll love how roly poly this baby dino is!
No matter how much your bubba pushes, pulls or knocks over this toy, it will just keep bobbing back up, and this teaches your child cause and effect in the cutest way.

3. Mentari Happy Stacking Dinosaurs Set
These wooden dinosaurs are stacks of fun for ages two and up, and your toddler will love the challenge of balancing them in different ways, honing their hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills along the way.
These dinosaurs are also great for small world play, and although there’s no end to the adventures they can have, you’ll be happy that the dinos live in a drawstring bag for easy pack up after play.

4. Edu-Blocks Dinosaurs
This box set takes the learning up a level, with 10 blocks your toddler can use to build a tower as tall as them!
The blocks are specially designed to teach colours, shapes and the numbers one to 10, and this set comes with a mini-atlas that’s full of interesting (but introductory) dinosaur concepts.

5. IKEA JÄTTELIK Brontosaurus Soft Toy
This cuddly Brontosaurus is recommended for ages 12 months and up, and whether your little one takes it on adventures or tucks it up in bed, this friendly giant will ignite their curiosity and introduce big words like ‘long-necked lizard’ and ‘herbivore’.
IKEA also stocks a Stegosaurus version, if your child wants to go green, and these toys definitely have the feel-good factor, with silky fabric and massive huggability.

6. Skip Hop Explore & More Dinosaur 3-in-1 Baby Musical Pull Toy
Pull toys are great for busy little people, and this 3-in-1 version has all the bells and whistles!
It’s shaped like a smiley Stegosaurus, and is fun whether your baby is sitting, or your toddler is toddling.
Your growing child can shake this toy as a tambourine, push it down to make the wheels bob and spikes spin, then pull it along by the bone-shaped handle; and all this action teaches them about sound and movement in a super fun way.

7. Tolo Bio Pop-up Dinosaurs
This Tolo toy is designed to teach cause and effect, shape matching and colour recognition, and your little one will be egg-cited to make the four baby dinos pop out of their shells.
There are activation shapes to twist, turn, push or rotate, and although your toddler will be sold on the fun mechanics, you’ll be interested in the wholemealy look of this toy.
It’s made of wheat fibre, which is durable and eco-friendly, and you’ll find this toy at boutique shops and big name retailers.

8. Janod Dino Multi-activity Volcano
This early learning toy is made for ages 12 months+, and it will help to spark your little one’s interest, develop their dexterity, teach cause and effect, and generally keep them busy!
The twisty abacus, shiny mirror and rotatable gears are sure to be a hit, and your bubba will also have fun making the dino shapes fit.

All in all, there are lots of opportunities to introduce your little one to dinosaurs in a playful way.
As well as stocking up on toys, you can take them to the museum, set up a sandpit dino dig, read prehistoric board books (like this one), or grow your own Dino Land; and there are many fun facts for your older child to bite off in time.
Roarrrrrrr!
