5 sweet gifts that aren’t actually sweet!

Chocolate eggs, rabbits, chickens, bilbies and more eggs can get a bit much on Easter Sunday, and if you want to spoil your under-five without leaving a trail of sweet stuff, then here are five sugar-free gifts that will go down a treat!

A cute pair of pyjamas.

Autumn is well underway and the nights are closing in, so Easter is a great time to gift your growing child a new pair of PJs.

There are lots of gorgeous styles to keep them snug as a bug for the next few months.

Peter Alexander and Cotton On Kids are two brands with wabbits everywhere; and you might like to throw in a pair of Easter socks or bunny slippers to keep your child’s tiny toes snug, too.

A creative selection of craft supplies.

Whether you pre-load an Easter basket, or leave a trail of goodies for your child to find, some colourful new craft supplies are exciting for any young creative.

Fake eggs and fancy paper are great for decorating, and as long as your child is past the “I taste everything I see” stage, you can add things like sparkly pom poms, stick-on jewels, googly eyes and egg crayons to the Easter haul.

Easter-themed stampers and cutters are also fun, especially when you pair them with pastel-coloured or chocolate-scented play dough, made by the Easter Bunny himself!

An educational toy, puzzle or game.

Young children learn through play, and a well-designed item will entertain them for a good chunk of Easter Sunday.

If you’re looking for inspiration, then your little one might like to ‘grow’ a LEGO DUPLO Carrot or get cracking with a Stack & Pour Bath Egg

A 123 Carrot Puzzle will help them get a handle on colours and numbers, and Bunny Boo is a clever game for preschoolers, with one bunny, three blocks and 60 challenges!

A beautiful book (or two).

Board books, picture books and activity books are amazing for your under-five’s language and development, and you’re spoilt for choice when it comes to Easter-themed titles.

Classics like That’s Not My Bunny…My Easter Egg Hunt or The Tale of Peter Rabbit are fun to flip through together; and your under-five will happily entertain themselves with a book that involves colouring, sticking, looking or making.

It’s easy to find busy books online or in-store, and Little First Stickers: Bunnies, Bluey: Easter Fun! A Craft Book and Easter Hunt: Look & Find are three options that may catch your eye.

A fun family experience.

Experience gifts have that ‘memories are made of this’ element, and you don’t need to spend lots to show your child a great time!

Something as simple as a DIY Easter dance party, hat parade, scavenger hunt or games day will excite your under-five, and you can make a morning of it by giving them a handwritten ticket to the event and laying out some special clothes and accessories to wear.

Activities can happen at home or in a nature space near you, and whether you throw in a few small prizes or not, the greatest gifts you can really give are your time and enthusiasm.

Throw yourself into the festivities, wear those bunny ears with pride, and have yourselves a very happy Easter!
