Digital technology makes family life interesting, but also tricky!

As a parent, you want to find the right balance between screen time and other activities, and although digital content can be helpful, entertaining and educational for your under eight, too much tech may not sit well with them – or you.

Then there’s the simple fact that no family is exactly the same.

Different ages, and children, handle screen content differently.

Some parents enforce strict tech rules, while others follow a ‘what feels right’ approach.

And for every family of tech-savvy ‘two thumb texters,’ there’s another family that’s struggling to connect.

Whatever your experience, The Social Policy Group is keen to hear about it!

This not-for-profit does a lot of work around digital wellbeing, and they’re conducting a Digital Technology & Advice for Parents Survey to identify the big challenges faced by parents and our expectations when it comes to under eights’ technology use.

The Social Policy Group will use the survey responses to ‘reframe’ the advice and support given to parents of young tech-users.

They want to come up with ‘helpful, controversy-free advice for Australian families,’ and if you’d like to have a say in this survey, then set aside five minutes to complete it here.

Now might also be a good time to check in on your family’s digital health.

If you’re worried that technology is problem for your family, or are just looking for positive ways to handle screen time, then this KindiCare article contains great tips from Daniel Donahoo, who’s a dad-of-three, tech guru and advisor with The Social Policy Group.
