Whether your middle grader is new to the series, or nose-deep in Treehouse re-readings, they’ll be impressed to know these 10 fun facts, passed from us to you, from Andy Griffiths himself!
1. Each Treehouse book takes an entire year to write and contains over 1,000 illustrations.
2. There are 13 new stories and 13 chapters in each book.
3. Andy and Jill are married in real life. (Jill is an editor and edits all the books).
4. The idea of Barky the Barking Dog came from a noisy dog that Andy and Jill lived next door to.
5. Terry’s favourite book when he was growing up was Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson – which might account for all the pirates in The 26-Storey Treehouse!
6. Andy’s favourite book was The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton – which is where he got the inspiration to write about living in a treehouse.
7. Jill and her family had many pets and her favourite book as a child was Animals You Will Never Forget – which is why she lives in a house full of animals in the series.
8. In real life, Andy’s family call him ‘Andrew’ and his friends call him ‘Griff.’
9. Mr Big Nose is not Andy and Terry’s real publisher. In real life, their publisher is a nice woman called Claire who never yells at them and does not have a big nose!
10. Terry is not quite as silly in real life as his character in the books (although he IS quite silly!).
And as for the amazing mind-reading sandwich-making machine?
Well, to learn more about that, you’ll have to digest the latest Treehouse book!
