Halloween is coming, and if you’d love to sugar-coat this event for your little one, without any actual sugar, then we recommend you read a book!
There are loads of toddler-friendly titles, complete with cute characters, silly words and happy surprises, and below, you’ll find 10 Halloween-themed books your little one is sure to love.
Each one is fun and new, and whether you read a single story or all 10, these board books will give your toddler a great taste of Halloween, without the scare factor.
So, without further ado, here are our top picks for the spooky season!

1. Room on the Broom: A Push, Pull and Slide Book
The Room on the Broom picture book is an all-time classic for preschoolers, and this board book introduces the friendly witch and her very busy broomstick to your toddler.
This version has magical moving mechanisms your little one can push, pull and slide, plus a simple rhyming story for them to follow, and there’s definitely room on this broom!

2. Festive Felt: Happy Halloween
With eye-catching colours and finger-pleasing felt, this board book will give your toddler a great sense of Halloween.
This 10-page treat is filled with fuzzy monsters, ghouls and spooks, all getting ready for the Halloween Parade.
And if your toddler loves this touchy-feely story, it’s good to know that there’s another book in the series – Santa’s Perfect Present – which is awesome for Christmas!

3. Guess Who? Boo to You!
This split-page board book has a ‘Knock, knock! Guess who?” theme, with friendly Halloween characters delivering treats door by door.
Your toddler will be super excited to open each door and reveal who’s been booed, and there’s a little bit of trickery, with a mirror ending that will give them the best surprise of all!

4. Spot’s Happy Halloween
Spot has a long history of celebrating Halloween, and this new board book is great fun for your toddler, because they get to pull the tabs to help Spot get ready for his party!
The pup needs to find a fab Halloween costume, make some treats, and hang the decorations, and if your little one loves a spook-tacular Spot story, you can also explore other gems, like Spot’s Pumpkin Surprise and Find Spot at Halloween.

5. Peppa Pig: Spooky Clubhouse
Like Spot, Peppa Pig has quite a few Halloween books to her name, and this new board book sees her decorating the clubhouse to make it scary, but not too scary!
This approach will go down well with your trepidatious toddler, and once the clubhouse has spiders, bats and witches’ hats all over the place, we’re pretty sure it will get their tick of approval.

6. Five Little Ghosts
This lift-the-flap book puts a ghostly spin on the Five Little Ducks nursery rhyme, as Mamma Ghost and her gaggle of ghoslings float through a Halloween adventure.
This lyrical book is lovely to read aloud, and when the ghoslings start disappearing one-by-one, it’s up to your toddler to find them under those flaps!

7. Old MacPumpkin Had a Farm
If your toddler is loving their nursery rhymes, this storybook is also worth a look.
In it, Old MacDonald has stepped aside for Old MacPumpkin, and their spooky farm has a cat, bat, spider, skeleton, witch, ghost and MONSTER.
Your toddler will gleefully point them out when the farmer fails to notice the spooky critters in their midst, and no-one will miss the fold-out trick-or-treat party at the end of the book!

8. Never Touch a Grumpy Bat!
This touch-and-feel board book is made for your toddler, but it’ll give you a giggle too, and although that grumpy bat might be off-limits, there are plenty of skeletons, pumpkins and other curiosities to run your fingers over.
Every page has bumpy silicone detailing you and your toddler will want to touch (and touch again), and surely a little pat of a bat won’t hurt?

9. Flip Flap Halloween
Flip, flap, who is that?
Well, that’s the big question, and to answer it, your child will have to peek through cobwebs, peer into a cauldron, and prise open a coffin to see who’s lurking on each page.
This split-page board book includes lots of describing words to build suspense as your toddler flips those flaps, and the pointy, pokey, blinky, winky critter in Dracula’s coffin is just one surprise along the way!

10. Ten Minutes to Bed: Happy Halloween
The Ten Minutes to Bed series eases littlies into the Lond of Nod, and this new bedtime installment is perfect for October 31.
As tween vampires and teen zombies start to roam the streets, you and your toddler can snuggle up inside with this board book, and help Twinkle the Unicorn find her friends and celebrate Halloween.
With toddler-proof flaps and slowly setting skies, this soothing read is a great way to round off your little one’s Halloween in a magical way.

We hope you find lots of treats in this KindiCare book list, and here’s to a very happy Halloween!
