I had no choice but to remove my son from this school due to the non existent inclusive support, the leadership team's lack of understanding of autism and their unwillingness to work with me and make appropriate adjustments. Their approach to inclusive education triggers a fight, flight or freeze response from children. My child was consistently pushed into a meltdown and as a result we have been left with trauma responses from him that we now have to overcome in therapy. I provided allied health professionals and autism advocates to help guide the school so my son could be successful. All recommendations were ignored. If any were put in place they would be removed unexpectedly and without reason. My child’s safety was compromised on a number of occasions. He would make it out of the front school gates that are constantly left open and out onto the main road and the leadership team told me they weren’t allowed to touch him to bring him back to safety. He was left unsupervised playing in the teachers car park multiple times. In meetings i was told my son was capable of nothing, I was also forced to medicate him. I was told if I didn’t medicate him I’d need to take him to special school. They didn’t just mistreat my son, any time I tried to work with the school I felt like they were working against me. My offers of help or suggestions were seen as demands. My son’s official diagnosis was seen as an excuse not a reason to explain certain behaviors. I received emails from the leadership team that I believe were a form of bullying and intimidation to force me to remove my son. I even have emails of a mocking nature towards my son’s disability from one of the main leaders of the school. I found these emails very disrespectful, they were not willing to be open minded about my son's disability, Due to this mindset my son couldn't be an achiever and build any resilience at school. Anything they didn't want written in an email they would say verbally, they would corner me on the school grounds and try to intimidate me. One of the head leadership team members approached me in front of other parents and stated confidential information about my child while waving her hand close to my face, other parents were able to witness and overhear this. In my opinion their approach to dealing with problems is very unprofessional.  Since removing my son and taking him to another local state school he’s doing much better. I’m blown away at what they are doing to help him. They are also working with me to repair the damage caused by his time at SM. I'm unsure why other local state school have a more superior approach to handling children on the spectrum in comparison to SM, It shows me that it all comes down to if the school is willing to help or not. Since removing my son from SM I have received information that my son was getting bullied and provoked by other students. This was never brought to my attention by the staff members at spring mountain. I believe this was because this information didn’t fit into the narrative they were trying to create about my son. From the start they didn’t want him there, their actions, verbal communication and written communication all implied this. I’m so glad after 3 years of hell I’ve removed him and found a wonderful school for him to attend. I am not alone in my opinion there are many others. If you are confident your child can go from prep to grade 6 without a single issue then this is the school for you, if not, stay away.

SMSS has a lot to learn when it comes to teaching children with disabilities. They ignored the majority of the recommendations put forward by our OT, PSYCH and SLP, the strategies we have used for many years they modified/ implemented and now no longer work. They ignored several requests to produce a copy of my child’s personalised learning plan or one school report. They Provided no information on the intervention and did not request permission to enter my child into the intensive reading intervention that paid no mind to his disability and needs in the classroom, this caused my child extreme anxiety, tummy aches and headaches, vomiting and wetting and soiling pants, insomnia, an eating disorder and self harming behaviours. There is no other intervention or support for your child if this does not work for them. “It will come down to funding, if other supports are available” When asking the school why the above behaviours were happening they said “he doesn’t present like that at school”. However my child has reports for defiance, truancy, verbal aggression and physical aggression, refusal to do work so they couldn’t collect data on his one school….. When I asked for more context on the incidents occurring they were not for coming and would play down the incidents or placate me in conversations. Autism Hub has been working in the school for many years, the recommended adjustments have not been implemented, this shows that they have the capability and resources they just lack the willingness to meet my child needs. If you have a child with special needs either they become masters at masking their struggles or you will be required to medicate…. They need to do better.

The school is absolutely worst as most of teachers are sexist and never let boys shine even if they have capabilities in them. They are highly discouraging and demotivating towards boys . Some teachers are not trained to treat boys and girls equally and hold grudge against small boys and sometimes on their parents. They dislike comments and wants easy way out by bullying parents.

In our own experience, the Deputy Principal Jacinta is a bully and can be extremely nasty to both Students and Parents. Is always looking for the worst in kids and never hear from her in the “good”. Disappointing as there is some really lovely class teachers that we’ve had over the past 3 years. This School at Assembly calls out Children/s names who are talking, makes them stand up in-front of hundreds of other students, Teachers and Parents. As I was attending SMSS assembly to watch my Son get an award, I couldn’t help but feel so sad for this poor child and how he would’ve felt in this moment of complete humiliation. Lastly, we made the decision to give our kids an early Holiday as they were extremely exhausted and moving School next year for a fresh start. The Report cards were ready on QParents App. As I logged in they had already got rid of my kids which meant I wasn’t able to access neither of their report cards. Not everyone is brave enough to leave an honest review but thought it might help another family to be wary of.
